Hmm, for my journal entry today, I decided to do a little something different. I'm going to write it as a short story, in the third person. So, without further ado, here is the story of my day.

Chapter 1, breakfast

Gary suddenly awoke as he heard the music spewing from his alarm clock. "Eight O'clock already," he thought "can't I sleep a little more?" Still half asleep, he crawled out of bed, picked up his towel and toiletrees, and made his way over to the shower.

Having cleaned himself, he went back to his room, and proceeded to dry himself off. He put on some cargo pants and a plain T-shirt, and went down to meet his family near Stetson East, the college dorm which contains a dinning hall. He sat down to watch TV in the lounge above the dinning hall, and was soon greeted by his friend Shannon. They met during freshmen orientation, Shannon was one of the few friends that Gary had made yet during college. Last night, Gary had invited Shannon to dinner with his family at an Italian Resteraunt, and there the family invited her to the breakfast that was supposed to happen this morning.

So, the two of them waited for the rest of Gary's family to show up, and soon enough, Gary spotted an outrageously tall person with a haircut which Gary still considers too long, walking towards the dorm. Gary quickly recognized him as his older brother, Mark. Mark went to the same college as Gary, and, to his pleasant suprise, Gary found Mark much more friendly now that he was in college. Gary, Shannon, and Mark all soon met in front of Stetson East, where they decided to wait for the rest of their family outside, because the weather didn't seem that cold out.

After a short time, the rest of the family showed up. "Did you finally get the tickets?" asked Gary, speaking of the tickets for the breakfast that his father was supposed to recieve.

"Yeah," replied his father, "We should have actually gotten them last night, but luckily for us they still allowed us to get them.

Then, Mark raised concerns about admission. "I'm not sure if they will let me in, because I think they are just assuming that a student will have a meal plan"

"Not so," replied the father. "It says right here that students are admitted free, provided that they have a meal plan. Oh, I guess that maybe you can't get in."

"I'll just have to use one of Gary's guest meals." Answer Mark.

"I have guest meals?" inquired Gary.

"Yeah, you get five of them per quarter. Hey look, I cooked for you a couple of weeks ago, so you can use a guest meal for me." said Mark, refering to the dinner that Mark invited Gary to a few weeks back.

"Uhh, I guess you can use one. What do I do, just tell them that I want to use a guest meal?" asked Gary.

"Yeah," replied Mark.

So, the six of them went inside where they were greeted by several buffets of breakfast food. Gary quicly made his way to the waffle iron, deciding earlier that it was the best thing to have for breakfast. After making a waffle, and topping it with strawberries and syrup, he sat near his family, in the far corner of the dinning hall. They all ate, while waiting for the father. After a few minutes, he still hadn't shown up yet. Gary said that he asked him where the rest room was earlier, and that perhaps he was still there. But in a few moments, the father came back with a large, steaming, custom made omlette.

"So that's were you were," said the mother.

Having finished the meal, they decided to go to Mark's apartment, where he still had their doggie bags from last nights dinner. They went in, and upon recieving the food, proceeded to make their way to the Columbus Street Parking Garage, where the family car was parked. At this point, Shannon took here food and left for her room. So, she said good-bye, and the family went on their way. When they got to the car, the father gave Mark a pile of mail, and some things he left, while the mother gave Gary some clothes he left at the house.

Then, after the father took a quick bathroom break, they headed their seperate ways, Mark, to his apartment, Gary, to his dorm room, and the rest of the family back home.

Chapter 2, Lunch

When he got back to his room, Gary quickly put down his clothes, and went on the internet. After checking his mail, and finding that Shannon's away message said she was sleeping, he decided to do likewise, and laid on his bed to relax.

Before he knew it, it was two O'clock, and he got up for the second time. Checking the Instant messanger, he found that by this time, Shannon was awake. So, he her if he could come over, and she happily agreed. After reaching into the fridge to grap a caffinated beverage to help him wake up, he quickly went over to Stetson East, where Shannon was staying.

When he got there, he already found a person using the intercom, so he had to wait for him to finish using it. He soon found himself looking at the giant projection TV, where he saw the Rams being beaten by the Giants, which he enjoyed. Just as soon as the intercom was free, he saw Shannon standing right next to him, something that startled him somewhat, still being half-asleep.

Upon going to the third floor apartment where Shannon resided, they met Ryan, their mutual friend, already there. They hanged out for a bit, untill Shannon and Ryan decided to eat, because they were all very hungry. They made there way to the dining hall, where they quickly found that Ryan had forgotten his student ID, which one needs to use to eat. So, Shannon had to go back upstairs and get the ID, while Gary and Ryan watched some more football. After Shannon returned, they went inside the dinning hall, and Gary quickly decided to have pizza, because there was no line for that. After he got his pizza, he went and got a salad and a drink, and sat down waiting for Shannon and Ryan to get their food.

When they finally sat down, they began eating and talking about radio stations. For some bizzar reason, their dicussion quickly turned to pain killers. Even more bizzarly, Gary shared his dream of the previous night, where he was given a large amount of vials, each containing a liquid, and he had to tell which one of them was mouthwash, and which where halluconagentic chemicals. He proceeded to tell that he spilt one container, and then spilt some real mouthwash, and compared their smells. He remembered that they smelled different, this being the only dream he remembered which included smell.

Then, Ryan and Shannon decided to go shopping for clothes in Cambridge, while Gary decided that he needed to do laundry.

Chapter 3, laundry

First, Gary went down to Wallastons, his neighborhood grocer, and got ten dollars worth of quarters, for the machines. Next, he went up to his room, where, to his suprise, he saw one of his roomates, Nick, back from his weekend trip. They greeted each other, and Gary asked him how many loads of laundry he though he needed to do, and Nick informed Gary that he could probably do all his clothes with only two loads of laundry.

Thus, Gary figured out that he would need five dollars to do two loads of laundry, which disapointed hime, because he wanted his money to last a bit longer. But, he quickly picked up all his clothes, got his detergent, and a book to read, and went down to the laundry room. Upon getting there, he found that he only had to wait a bit for the first washer, which he proceeded to fill with his colors. Upon loading it, he picked up his book, "A Storm of Swords" by George R.R. Martin, and began to read. He read about two chapters, and after that he found only a short time left on the washer, so he waited for that to finish. He then took the colors out, and seeing that there was no free dryer, he put then on top of a washer while he proceeded to put the whites in the washer. He then read a few more chapters of the book, and when he saw that the wash was done, he took the clothes out, and put them all on a table.

He noticed that not only were all the dryers taken, but there was a small line for the dryers, so he figured that he would have to wait a while.

Getting bored of his book, Gary soon began to pace back and forth, thinking. His thoughts soon wandered to his schedule for the next quarter, and what classes he would take. While thinking, he realized that he didn't have to take math, and thus had a block for a free elective. He wondered what he should take, and considered perhaps taking Japanese.

He had not yet decided when an available dryer opened up. But, to his luck, not only one but two opened up at the same time. He loaded them, and then returned to his room to wait for them to finish. He posted a few messages on the internet, and soon found that time had indeed flown, and that the drying was almost finished. Going downstairs, he gathered his laundry, and made his way back upstairs, where he promptly put it down, and went for the computer.

Chapter 4, the evening

So, Gary played Roller Coaster Tycoon for a while, until he realized that he was hungry. So, he went down to the dinning hall, and, feeling adventurous, had some stir-fry with rice. After finishing an exceptionally good meal, he made his way back up to his room, where he quickly went on the internet.

On the message board, he was quickly greeted by a post entitled "Boston:)" To Gary's suprise, one of the forum regulars said that he lived in the back bay, near the Pru, which close to where Gary lived, if not exactly there. So, he quickly asked this member where exactly he lived, and waited for an answer. He posted a few other things on the board, but he soon went to the Northeaster University homepage, to see his schedule. To his supprise, he was signed up for Calculus in both the Fall and the Winter quarters, which was obviously a mistake. Gary made a mental note to talk to the department head next Wedsnesday, and then downloaded a list of courses, looking through to see what was available. He didn't reach a firm conclusion, but he narrowed it down to a few possibilities.

Soon, he found himself at his brother's home page, where he read many of his old messages of the day. After getting bored, he proceeded to make a crib-sheet for his physics test the following day. The professor allowed the students to put whatever they want on an 8x11 sheet of paper. Gary first put all the equations he was uncertain about on, and then began to fill it with constants, basic equations, and prefix values. Getting very bored, he decided it would be a good idea if he were to put a list of the Chinese dynasties on the sheet. Spending about an hour researching it, he soon had a timeline dating from the Xia dynasty in 2000 BC, to Communist China, in 2001 AD. He then decided that it was time to write in his journal, which, for some reason, he decided would take a narrative form. THE END!!

Wow, that was long. Look at all that detail I have. More than you probably cared to know, and more than I certainly cared to write. Good thing I don't have any morning classes tomorrow, because its getting kind of late. I might do this again sometime, but not unless I'm really bored, because it is a bit of a time commitment.
